History is all around you
in Bloomsbury, an area made famous in the early 20th
century by the avant-garde artistic circle known as
the 'Bloomsbury Group'.
And
the hotel buildings themselves have a fascinating past.
Originally
built as three separate dwellings by master architect
and builder James Burton in 1807, they have variously
been owned by a Member of Parliament, a retired lieutenant-colonel,
a theological tutor and the famous publisher Andrew
Chatto (founder of Chatto & Windus).
